The Problem

Currently at PEACE Ranch, all equine therapy programs are conducted in uncovered, outdoor arenas. Consequently, programs are limited to approximately 12-16 weeks per year due to our cool and unpredictable climate. As a result, valuable opportunities for children and adults are severely limited from September 1 to June 1, denying them the benefits of equine assisted therapy and education for 40 out of 52 weeks per year!

Until this time, possible solutions have been rejected due to their potential to significantly increase overhead and costs, thereby threatening to compromise our commitment to the community to provide therapeutic equine activities safely and afford ably to all.

The Solution

The Covering Project proposes an economical solution to the environmental challenges we face, proposeing a simple reinforced metal roof to covers a 68’x130’ arena which is:

• Economical (by creating little additional overhead for the organization)

• Sustainable (by requiring minimal maintenance)

• Accessible (by increasing our ability to provide valuable equine therapy year round)

The project will go forward in spring 2012 with the building in use by summer. Completion of the project will:

• Expand and extend the service potential for children and adults in a 5 county area to include new therapy and education programs during and after school and new collaborative partnerships.

• Triple the number of clients we serve in private and group sessions, volunteer training and events

• Provide college students with more internships and practicum opportunities.

• Enable nationally recognized equine therapy trainings thereby attracting people to the area and creating opportunities for community advancement and increased revenue.

The Covering Project is an economical step toward the future and will easily adapt for future expansion.
