Over at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City, two nonprofits received generous awards for their impact on the area.

Jackie Kaschel, Founder and ED of PEACE Ranch, serving horses and humans suffering the effects of abuse, neglect, conflict grief and pain.

A northern Michigan ranch, dedicated to offering clinical counseling, is being recognized for its service to veterans.

Since 2013 PEACE Ranch in Grand Traverse County has helped heal the lives of more than 500 veterans and their families. Monday those victories were celebrated with an award.

Baylie is eight years old. Born to a mother addicted to cocaine and an alcoholic father, removed from her parents at six months and covered with bruises and cigarette burns, Baylie (not her real name) has spent her childhood shuffled from one foster home to another.

BrickWays is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing quality supportive housing and essential support services for adults with developmental disabilities. “The BrickWays and PEACE Ranch collaboration is an opportunity for those in the BrickWays program to grow personally while having a great time,” Jackie Kaschel the Executive Director of the PEACE Ranch says.
